Leafletting
For the 2016 Free Cone Day Action, we have prepared a special
leaflet (version française
here).
- The leaflet is based on the damning new report from Human Rights Watch about corporate complicity with Israel’s occupation. The report provides substantial evidence of the damage done by corporate collusion with illegal, Jewish-only settlements on stolen Palestinian land.
- Let us know by March 16th if you want us to mail printed leaflets to you, and how many.
- We will let you know as soon as the date for Free Cone Day is announced.
Sequential ('Burma Shave') Signs on Free Cone Day
To send a message to a moving line, Free Cone Day Action 2016 organizers recommend a
"Burma Shave" theme format, like this:
Five people hold signs sequentially (one sign per person), appropriately spaced, while people seeking free ice cream advance in line toward the scoop shop, reading the signs as they go. Another activist can be handing out leaflets. Come up with your own rhymed doggerel, or use one from this selection:
Peace and love:
a noble theme.
But apartheid’s flavor
ruins ice cream.
B&J - STOP SELLING IN ILLEGAL ISRAELI SETTLEMENTS
Peace Pops sold
in settlement venue.
Walls and bullets
on Palestine's menu.
B&J - STOP SELLING IN ILLEGAL ISRAELI SETTLEMENTS
Ben & Jerry’s –
today they're treating.
But Palestinians
take a beating.
B&J - STOP SELLING IN ILLEGAL ISRAELI SETTLEMENTS
Why do it if it isn't fun?
So say Ben and Jerry.
Palestinians under the gun -
is that what makes them merry?

Making or Purchasing Burma Shave Signs
- Letter your own posters on core-foam boards (99¢), using a half-inch brush with acrylic (waterproof) paint.
- Buy ready-printed Burma Shave signs, with your own message, here or here.
- Print your text at about 200 point size in sections on Full Sheet Shipping Labels, 8-1/2" x 11" (Avery 8165), e.g. from Staples. Trim and attach to board.
Then line up with your signs at your local scoop shop on Free Cone Day (probably the 2nd Tuesday in April - April 12th – we’ll let you know the exact date when it is announced).
Send us Your Photographs
Not everyone can leaflet on Free Cone Day, and many communities don’t have Ben & Jerry’s scoop shops.
Participate instead by organizing a photograph with members of your local group (or just you) holding a sign of solidarity calling on Ben & Jerry’s to stop selling ice cream in Israeli settlements. The sign can be as simple as "Ben &Jerry's Out of Israeli Settlements." Or any other message that conveys a spirit of BDS resistance to Ben & Jerry’s unethical commerce or supports the call for a boycott of the company.
Stage the photo, tell us where it was taken and who you are, and send it to: icecream@vtjp.org
We will compose a montage of the images and messages, deliver it to Ben & Jerry’s headquarters in South Burlington, Vermont, and share it on social media.
Join us this April 12th on Free Cone Day!
Please stand in solidarity with the Palestinian people on Free Cone Day
-> at a Ben & Jerry's scoop shop,
-> by sending a photograph,
-> or by
e-mailing Jostein Solheim, CEO of Ben & Jerry's.
Let us know if you plan a scoop shop action this year, how many leaflets to send you, and how VTJP can help.
